Chelsea are set to face competition from Aston Villa for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa this summer according to reports.

The Blues agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid last summer worth £35m for the 20-year-old, but the deal collapsed at the last minute, with Chelsea choosing to sign Joao Felix instead.

That decision has looked costly with a lack of an alternative for Nicolas Jackson really hampering the Blues, and they are now without a recognised striker as both Jackson and Marc Guiu are injured.

Villa join race for Chelsea transfer target

Chelsea could certainly have done with Aghehowa this season and the Spain under-21 international has impressed at Porto, and the Blues recently sent scouts to watch him in action.

The striker has 19 goals in 31 games in all competitions having joined the Portuguese giants last summer, and it’s possible he could soon be on the move again.

Caught Offside have reported that Aston Villa have joined the race for the 20-year-old, and have stepped up their interest as they look for a replacement for Jhon Duran.

The report adds that Chelsea still retain interest along with fellow Premier League clubs Arsenal and West Ham, although Aghehowa is now said to be valued at €50m.

Aghehowa isn’t the only striker Chelsea have been linked with and the Blues are said to be leading the race for Liam Delap, whilst they also hold interest in Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea are expected to have strong competition from Arsenal for the RB Leipzig man, and if they are to stand any chance they will surely have to offer Champions League football.

If the Blues do decide to go back in for Aghehowa it will be slightly embarrassing having agreed a deal last summer for a cheaper fee, only to return a year later and pay more.

Whatever happens in the summer one thing is for sure, Chelsea need another striker if they are to stand any chance of competing for major trophies.
