Chelsea have taken their pursuit of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho one step further after conducting a series of background checks on him.
The Telegraph claims the Blues have no concerns over his attitude or behaviour off the pitch, despite being banished from the United first team squad.
Chelsea hold a long-standing interest in the 21-year-old. Aston Villa are interested in Garnacho, but Champions League football is more appealing to him.
Despite being dropped from United’s plans by manager Ruben Amorim, Garnacho remains a player of high interest at Stamford Bridge.
Club officials have done their due diligence, carrying out extensive character checks, and are fully satisfied with the results.
They believe Garnacho’s issues at Old Trafford are circumstantial rather than personal.
Chelsea are expected to table an official bid before the transfer window closes, but the timing could depend on United’s own transfer plans.
The Red Devils are currently chasing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko and are unlikely to green-light Garnacho’s exit until that situation is resolved.
But Chelsea also have some clearing out to do. They have made several additions to the squad but are still open to bolstering their attacking options further.
However, they’ll need to first create room in their squad. Sales and loan moves are being lined up, with forwards Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja potentially leaving permanently.
Nkunku has been linked with United, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig, but no concrete bids have been made.
Broja is reportedly attracting interest from Bundesliga clubs.
Promising young talent Marc Guiu has already secured a loan move to Sunderland and could be followed through the exit door by Tyrique George.
Chelsea have also held talks about signing Dutch midfielder Xavi Simons, but his arrival wouldn’t rule out a move for Garnacho.
Defender Jorrel Hato is set to arrive from Ajax in a £37 million deal. He could link up with Enzo Maresca’s squad for the mini pre-season next week.
