In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Chelsea are locked in a three-way battle for Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap ahead of the summer transfer period. It is understood that the Blues would have to compete with Everton and Manchester United in the race to land the English striker.
Delap has put in a series of productive displays as the focal point of Ipswich’s attack during this campaign. The 22-year-old has banged in 12 goals and secured a couple of assists in 34 appearances for the Tractor Boys this season across all fronts.
The Winchester-born talent has led the line well based on his average of 2.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Premier League football. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the final third, as evidenced by his pass completion rate of 61.9% in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Ipswich will expire in the summer of 2029 which could make it difficult for Chelsea to sign him on the cheap later this year.

Delap can engineer a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He can be a streaky goal-scorer in the final third and can create the odd chance for his teammates up top. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well but needs to work on improving his ball distribution in the opposition half.
Standing at 1.86m, Delap can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition defenders in the air. At 22, he has the potential to grow into a top centre-forward over the next few years.
Hence, Delap would be a great choice for the Blues to consider in this summer transfer window. He would add more pace and power to Chelsea’s frontline. The English forward is more than capable of competing for a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.
With all things considered, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca would be wise to go all out to win the race to secure Delap’s services at the end of this campaign. However, the West London club would have to be patient before they can unlock the best out of him.
