Final day of the season and we failed to get tickets for Newcastle United at home to Everton.

So, it is Sunday afternoon and we are at home in London.

It is time for me and the kids to settle down and watch Everton get despatched.

Unfortunately, this is the day that the Firestick has decided to let us down.

All we can get is an Andy Cole interview with Ferguson in the background and this turns into a recurrent ten second loop.

No matter what we do we can not get rid of this Andy Cole/Ferguson version of hell.

We desperately wrestle with technology, becoming increasingly frustrated.

I leave my daughter grappling with the remotes and electrical hardware and head to the kitchen to listen to the radio and monitor the football via my Macbook. All reminiscent of the days of being in the pub and watching Ceefax/Oracle to get the sports updates.

The young lass comes good and we have the Newcastle game on, however it is the second half, but hey, still nil nil all to play for.

I settle down with my can of Moretti and then my Apple watch buzzes with a message. I have turned notifications off on all my devices but my Arsenal supporting colleague has decided to let me know that we are a bunch of effing losers.

Seconds later, we see the ball delivered into our box and an unmarked Alcaraz heading it into the bottom corner, past a statuesque Pope in the middle of the goal.

Speechless, we are all on our devices checking what is going on elsewhere.

Then my son celebrates a Man U goal.

As things stand, we are in the Champions League on goal difference.

We battled technology to get the game on, but now it is the other games that we could easily have watched, which are now so important.

As the results come in, we know we are over the line.
