There continues to be plenty of movement behind the scenes at Ibrox as Rangers assess every potential avenue during a key transfer window. With fresh names constantly surfacing and former favourites still lingering in the background the club finds itself at a pivotal crossroads in shaping the new campaign. The market remains fluid and Rangers supporters are right to keep a close eye on developments both at home and abroad as the squad rebuild continues with pace and ambition.
One of the more intriguing stories to resurface involves former loan attacker Vaclav Cerny. The Czech winger spent time at Ibrox last season and impressed many with his drive technique and direct style. However a permanent move never materialised due to the high financial demands of his parent club. Now reports have emerged that Wolfsburg have officially put Cerny on the transfer list due to financial issues and are open to offers. Unfortunately for Rangers the asking price remains in the region of £8M which at this stage is a sum far beyond the club’s reach for a single player. This earlier update outlined the difficulties Rangers would face in trying to secure him outright.
It is a frustrating scenario because Cerny offered something different that few others in the squad could match. He had pace confidence and the ability to take on defenders in ways that unsettled opposition backlines. While not always consistent he was definitely a player who brought threat to the final third and would be an asset in domestic and European competition. Ibrox Noise reported on the situation when it first became apparent Rangers would not be able to fund a move.
That said there could still be one possible path. A second loan spell. Wolfsburg are keen to move the player on and if no permanent bidders match their valuation they may reconsider the idea of another temporary exit. Confirmation from his agent suggests Rangers have not re-engaged yet but that does not mean the door is shut. A late move could still arise if circumstances align. With the player’s value and profile clearly established the situation may yet turn in Rangers’ favour if patience is applied.
