With the trip to Motherwell at the weekend successfully negotiated with a comfortable 3-0 victory, attention turns to the visit of Dundee to Paradise as Celtic look to maintain their excellent league form which has been perfect to date aside from spilling two points against Aberdeen.

There were four changes to the side that started in Bergamo at Fir Park and manager is likely to maintain his rotation plays as he looks to his squad to secure a successful path through this intense batch of fixtures that continues at Hampden Park on Saturday afternoon for the Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Aberdeen then moves onto the Champions League match against RB Leipzig who somehow are pointless in the competition despite being the in-form team in the Bundesliga, sitting in second spot just behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Brendan Rodgers confirmed today that he is awaiting the results of a scan on Adam Idah’s ankle after that disgraceful lunge by Motherwell defender Liam Gordon. Tellingly the Fir Park club decided NOT to appeal the red card call and maybe their manager will put his hands up and admitted his own error with his post match comments. Adam Idah is highly unlikely to be involved tomorrow with Kyogo coming in and Daizen Maeda playing the role of back-up striker.

Callum McGregor is training but it would be a huge surprise if he is involved as Brendan is clearly looking at doing all he can to have his skipper ready for the next two matches against Aberdeen and RB Leipzig.

There’s a decision to be made at the back too with Cameron Carter-Vickers fit again and both Auston Trusty and Liam Scales available for selection. Brendan does’t like to rotate his two central defenders too much so expect CCV to come back into the team tomorrow and the manager to evaluate things from there.

Celtic Manager’s Thoughts on Dundee

“You go through little runs. Obviously the Kilmarnock game will have hurt them before the international break, having been up in the game and then losing that one. They got a good win away at Motherwell which is a tough place to go, and then to lose at the weekend.

“So probably the last five or six games have not been ideal in terms of results, but Tony has done a fantastic job there – they lose their best player and lose their captain in the summer.

“So that can always make an impact, but Tony has good experience in the game and how he has managed his club has been fantastic. You’ll go through spells in this league where you maybe don’t get the run of games and the run of results, but for us, I always think it’s a dangerous moment for a team.

“Because they are looking for that big performance, and you know that teams will always give that extra bit against the champions. So we have to guard against that and make sure that we’re right on our game, and look to win, and obviously win how we want to.”

Celtic Player’s View

“It’s good for the manager and players to use the squad. Maybe for the first four games of the season we had a week to every game, but now the games are coming thick and fast. And at a big club like Celtic, you are in every competition, and all the boys are looking forward to it.

“I’ve been really enjoying my football, I had a good pre-season and I’m enjoying helping the team when I’ve been involved. It shows the confidence we have in the squad and you can make two or three changes with different personnel for different games as well, and over the next couple of months that’s definitely going to help us,” Jamesy said.

“I’ve been at Celtic for years now, and that’s always been the case. I think especially in the forward positions it’s good to have more options and freshen it up at times as well. It keeps everyone on their toes and you know that when you get a chance you need to perform and help the team, and so far this season all of the boys have been doing that.”

Score Predictions

We did predict that Celtic would win 3-0 at Fir Park at the weekend and have been on a decent run on this outside of the Aberdeen game.  For tomorrow night the prediction is that Kasper will pick the ball out of the Celtic net but Celtic will put four past the Dundee keeper Jon McCracken with a final score of Celtic 4 Dundee 1.

It will also be interesting to see how the Aberdeen v theRangers game goes at Pittodrie, where one or both will drop points. Brendan Rodgers was asked about this second versus third encounter today and had this to say:

“Our focus is on our own, you can only look after yourself. I’m so pleased with how the team had been playing, how we’ve been functioning, how we’ve been working, and if we look and think of anything else, then that can take away from our performance.

So, it’s a big game, but we have a massive game at home to Dundee and that’s our only focus. For us, it’s about us focusing on Celtic getting three points, playing the football, entertaining our supporters, because that’s ultimately what we can control.”

Celtic know that they will improve the position on one or both by getting the points secured against Dundee before we turn our attention to Aberdeen on Saturday. Thick and fast these games are coming.

Got a feeling that the game at Pittodrie will finish up: Aberdeen 1 theRangers 1.
