Ex-Celtic Adam Idah may be exactly what Norwich City need in order to replace Sargent.

A renewed and revitalised striker in Adam Idah could be the perfect tonic after Josh Sargent has been heavily linked to a move away from Norwich City.

Norwich may have a huge dilemma on their hands, with Josh Sargent being linked to Leeds in reports from TEAMtalk.

The Athletic reported just days ago, though, that the forward is happy at Carrow Road at this stage, which is a potential blow to those teams who have taken an interest in him - Leeds included.

However, with a player of Sargent's quality, with as much interest attached to him as the American has, it can never be assured that he will be staying in East Anglia throughout the summer.

With the right offer, it cannot be guaranteed that the 24-year-old will still be playing football for The Canaries once the season starts or, indeed, at the end of August.

Therefore, it is important to consider other options for Norwich going forward.

Adam Idah, who has just finished a loan spell with Scottish champions Celtic, would be the obvious choice to replace Sargent as the go-to man in Norwich's attacking unit.

Idah thrived at Celtic

Idah played a big role in The Bhoys' setup, making 15 league appearances in another title-winning season for the Glasgow-based side.

Within his 15 appearances, the Irishman managed to accumulate 10 goal contributions for Celtic, which is extremely impressive, especially considering that only five of these appearances came from the striker starting.

However, Idah is said to be "very keen" on a permanent switch to Celtic, with the Irishman becoming something of a fan favourite, having scored the winning goal in a thrilling Scottish Cup final against bitter rivals Rangers, cementing himself into the club's history books with a 89th minute winner the only goal in the game.

Idah has got way more experience now compared to when he left the club to move on loan to Celtic.

If he can be convinced to give Norwich another chance, with the promise of being Sargent's replacement should he leave, Idah is the obvious answer this summer. The hurdle being, of course, having to put off any Celtic interest in a reunion.

Norwich have Sargent successor in the form of Idah

Idah has shown that he can deliver when given the opportunity. The opportunity that, given his January exit last season, wasn't presenting itself enough at Carrow Road during the first-half of 2023/24.

His goal contributions per game suggest he is a reliable option to lead the line for Norwich in the event of Sargent going.

Idah's ability to step up during crucial moments in a title and cup-winning campaign with Celtic further highlights his potential to shine at Norwich.

Moreover, his youth and ambition to establish himself in a competitive league align perfectly with the club's long-term goal of promotion to the Premier League.

Another factor that could play in Norwich's favour is Idah's familiarity with the team and the league.

Unlike a new signing who would require time to adapt, Idah has been with Norwich long enough to understand the team's dynamics, ethos, and expectations, even under a new manager in Johannes Hoff Thorup.

While the speculation surrounding Sargent's future continues, Norwich must remain proactive.

Ensuring that they have a capable and ready-to-go striker in Idah will be crucial in maintaining their competitive edge and meaning the squad has a more seamless transition than embedding a new signing.

Idah's performance at Celtic has proven that he has the quality to fill Sargent's boots, if not surpass them, with consistent playtime and support from the team.

The potential departure of Sargent presents a significant challenge for Norwich City, but it also opens the door for Idah to step up and showcase his talent.

As the summer transfer window unfolds, Norwich's strategic decisions will be pivotal in ensuring they remain a formidable force in their quest for success.

Scoring the winner in the Scottish Cup final can only be a good sign for Norwich, ahead of a season which fans will hope may lead to another play-off push.

If Idah does decide to stay, this clinical nature in the most important games could prove the difference between greatness and disappointment for The Canaries.

With Idah looking ready to rise to the occasion thanks to Celtic's work with him on loan, any twist from this point regarding Sargent's future will not be felt half as much as it could have been at Carrow Road.
