Celtic looking to take advantage of Anderlecht’s disastrous European exit

Despite having originally been part of qualification for the Europa League, Anderlecht have missed out on any European football this season. After a defeat in Greece to AEK Athens the side will not be part of continental football and now must suffer the financial consequences of this. The squad will need to be trimmed and the Mauves will be forced to sell. According to HLN, Celtic are already looking to take advantage of the situation in Brussels. The Scottish giants are said to be interested in signing the sides star striker Kasper Dolberg.

Since joining Anderlecht two seasons ago, Dolberg has rebuilt a career that looked to be stagnating. After bursting onto the scene with Ajax, a move to Nice failed to see the striker develop into what many felt he might become. Loan spells with Sevilla and Hoffenheim were unsuccessful, with Nice then selling the striker to Anderlecht in the summer of 2023. Since then, Dolberg has returned to the form he showed just across the border in the Eredivisie. Dolberg scored 15 goals in 42 games during his first season, following that up with an impressive 24 goals season in 2024/2025.

Anderlecht have signed a striker this summer in Adriano Bertaccini from Sint Truiden. Should Celtic meet their valuation, the Mauves will likely have to cash in after missing out on European football, with Bertaccini then having to fill Dolberg’s boots.
