As Celtic gear up for tonight’s visit to Páirc Uí Chaoimh for the Cork Super Cup, we are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership between Celtic, our official retail partner JD and College Corinthians AFC in Cork.
The new initiative, which will run for the next year, initially will provide fantastic coaching programmes to young people in the Cork area.
The club’s international academy coaching programme will initially stage a three-day coaching clinic for young people in the Cork area, using Corinthians’ fantastic facilities in the city.
Professional UEFA Licensed Celtic Soccer Academy coaches will fly in from Glasgow and in a fun environment, Celtic’s coaches will provide expert coaching, with small and large sided games taking place, 1-to-1 feedback provided throughout as well as a real focus on Technical and Tactical Training.
This will be the first of many courses throughout the year as Celtic aims to bring their expertise and experience in support in this area.
Celtic’s Academy coaching programme stretches far and wide with partnerships all over the globe from America to Australia and right across Europe. Celtic already have strong connections in Ireland and are pleased to develop these further through this programme in Cork, one the club hopes will be really popular.
Jose Romero, Celtic’s Senior Soccer Academy Manager said: “We are really excited about teaming up with Corinthians in Cork and JD to provide a year-long programme of activity aimed at young people, boys and girls, who are interested in developing their skills.
'We know the great work which Corinthians have delivered for many years in the local community, and we will aim to bring our experience and skills to build on this great work.'
“We know Adam has such a close connection to Corinthians and we are hopeful that we can use his example and the draw of Celtic to inspire some great involvement in this initiative, perhaps leading to more great footballing journeys from Cork to the highest levels of football.”
Celtic striker, Adam Idah added: “I am delighted that Celtic is to team up with JD and Corinthians, my old club, in this way. I am sure it will be a great programme run by our coaches who are some of the best around.
“It is really humbling to come back to Cork with Celtic and to see this partnership develop, I spent so much of my life with Corinthians and the club will always hold a special place in my heart. Above all, these programmes will offer a real fun experience.
“Of course, I would love if more and more kids from Cork can come through the ranks and achieve their dreams in football and I am delighted that we can come together in this way and inspire kids to develop in the game.”
The partnership will also provide an opportunity for kids from Cork to travel to Glasgow and train at Celtic’s newly developed Barrowfield Training Ground as part of a wider Team Tour.
As well as training at Celtic’s Youth Academy facilities, College Corinthians’ players will play a friendly game vs local opposition, and also attend a first team match at Celtic Park.
Throughout the following 12 months, JD’s funding of activity led by The Celtic Soccer Academy in Ireland and Scotland will provide value that extends beyond player, team and coach development.
College Corinthians’ commitment to provide a platform for the local community will be aided by fundraising around all the planned programmes. Funds raised will be reinvested back into the club which will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.
'We hope the investment creates an even stronger platform for future players who aspire to follow in Adam Idah’s footsteps.'
Joseph Simpson, Head of Partnerships at JD, said: “We’re proud to partner with Celtic and College Corinthians AFC on these local community initiatives, bringing coaching support and opportunities to young people throughout Cork and beyond.
"This type of support is invaluable to young players, and epitomises everything JD are committed to achieve with our Forever Forward brand platform.”
John O’Regan from College Corinthians said: “All of us at College Corinthians are delighted to be partnering with Celtic FC and JD on a number of forthcoming projects.
"Celtic FC are a legendary cub with a huge following in Cork and all of Ireland. We are particularly proud that our own player, Adam Idah is winning trophies over in Scotland.”
Steven Grainger, coach at College Corinthians, added: “JD too have a huge presence in Cork with a number of busy outlets and we are delighted that they have chosen us as a club for some of their community engagement partnerships.
"We are a rapidly evolving grassroots club in Cork with a philosophy of developing our players, and the connection with Celtic FC and JD will enhance that.”
