As Celtic’s summer transfer plans start to shift through the gears, links keep emerging. Some fanciful, others fleeting – we’ve covered almost all of them on The Celtic Star this summer – but every so often, a rumour pops up that just makes sense.

Reports from Italy and from Anthony Joseph at Sky Sports suggest Celtic are circling around the Napoli striker, who spent last season on loan at Frosinone in Serie B and has become a regular feature in Italy’s U21 squad.
Anthony Joseph from Sky Sports on X reported: “Celtic have made an enquiry for Napoli striker Giuseppe Ambrosino. It’s understood the Hoops are exploring the conditions of a loan deal, with an option to buy, for the Italy U21 international. Ambrosino, 21, is said to be keen on a move to Celtic FC.”
It’s exactly the type of deal that sends a ripple of excitement through the fanbase – and rightly so.
Because if this movie seems familiar, that’s because you’ve seen it before. Remember Jota? Buried deep in the Benfica system, tantalising glimpses of brilliance, frustrating loans to the foot of La Liga, but no clear pathway to the first team.

Then there’s Odsonne Edouard – PSG’s wunderkind who needed only the right platform to announce himself as one of Europe’s most clinical young forwards.
Both arrived at Celtic on loan, both left the club as heroes – a feeling so good Jota came back for some more of it, twice – and both proved that Celtic Park remains one of the best places in Europe for a young, ambitious but under-appreciated talents to develop, realise their full potential, and play in front of 60,000 every other week.

Ambrosino fits that mould to a tee. No wonder he is apparently keen on coming to Scotland’s Champions.
He’s not a household name – yet – but those who’ve watched him closely speak of a technically sound, creative forward who thrives playing off the shoulder. With smart movement, and that rare knack of drifting into space at just the right time, Ambrosino looks every inch the modern forward. He’s not the finished product, but that’s the point.
At 21, and with Napoli unlikely to hand him meaningful first-team minutes anytime soon, this is a player at a crossroads. The talent is obvious – you don’t get a regular gig with Italy U21s unless you’re one of the very best in your age group. But he needs a stage. He needs a home.

Could that be at Celtic? Tonight there are more reports emerging on Giuseppe Ambrosino to Celtic, as Paul Gillepsie has reported on The Celtic Star.
Financially, this is the kind of move that suits all parties. Celtic’s transfer model would like to believe it thrives on spotting value where others see risk. Whether it’s a loan with an option to buy (as with Jota and Edouard) or a permanent deal with resale potential baked in, Ambrosino is the sort of profile the club should be targeting.
Napoli, with their bloated forward ranks, may be open to a structured deal. Celtic, meanwhile, need fresh attacking options – especially if we’re to mount a serious challenge domestically and build on the progress made in Europe last season. In fact, the very future at Celtic for Brendan Rodgers could hinge on getting deals like this one done.

More than anything, though, this kind of move sends the right message. That Celtic remain a club where talent is nurtured, the ideal stage for those brave enough to seize their chance. And for a player like Ambrosino – talented, on the cusp, but needing trust and game time – this might just be the perfect match.
With the right persuasion, and perhaps a little help from the Champions League music ringing in his ears, there’s no reason we can’t. The challenge will be convincing both the player and his representatives that Celtic isn’t just a stopgap – it’s a platform.
