A highly-regarded up-and-coming member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is increasingly likely to be afforded a call-up to the club’s senior squad, for their next outing.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Raúl Asencio as the player in question.
For those not familiar with his name, Asencio is a 21-year-old central defender, who currently acts as captain and leader for Real Madrid Castilla.
The youngster has long been held in high regard behind the scenes at Valdebebas, tipped for a future first-team role in Spain’s capital as a result.
And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday is anything to go by, then as much could be forthcoming as soon as next weekend.
Real Madrid’s squad has of course been ravaged by injuries over the course of recent weeks.
The heart of defence has been hit particularly hard, with all of Éder Militão, Joan Martínez, Jacobo Ramón and emergency cover Aurélien Tchouaméni having joined long-term absentee David Alaba on the sidelines.
And, as per the aforementioned AS:
‘After the break, Asencio has many chances to be included in the call-up for Anoeta (vs Real Sociedad). At 21 years old, the time has come for the Canary Islander.’
