Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Saturday responded to the recent comments laid out by Atlético Madrid counterpart Diego Simeone.
For those who may have missed it, Simeone turned heads across Spain during his latest press conference on Friday.
This came after the Argentine made use of the opportunity to aim a less-than-subtle dig at his side’s arch rivals, Real Madrid.
Asked whether he was left surprised by the controversial officiating to have benefitted Los Blancos in their Copa del Rey victory over Celta Vigo on Thursday, Simeone pulled no punches in responding:
“I didn’t watch the game. They told me about some incidents that happened during the match… but it’s been like that for 100 years now. I don’t know why it surprises you.”
During his own pre-match exchange with the media this afternoon, it therefore came as little surprise when Simeone’s claims were put to the aforementioned Carlo Ancelotti.
And Real’s headmaster was firm in his response, explaining:
“Simeone’s words? These are things that are said for the gallery. Everyone in football is aware of what Real Madrid represents in its 125 years of history. I suppose they are thorns that hurt.”
