Carabao Cup third round draw in full: Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City face away trips | OneFootball

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City will all face away trips to lower league opposition in the third round of the Carabao Cup, where they will hope to avoid the same fate as Manchester United.

Arsenal will travel north to face League One strugglers Port Vale. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since a 1998 FA Cup tie which went to a replay.

Chelsea will visit League One Lincoln City for the first time in over 100 years. Manchester City will also meet League One opposition as they take on Huddersfield Town.

Mikel Arteta, Enzo Maresca and Pep Guardiola will all hope to avoid the same fate suffered by Man Utd. Ruben Amorim watched on as his side succumbed to defeat on penalties to League Two Grimsby Town.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool will be visited by Championship side Southampton at Anfield. And Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur will host League One Doncaster Rovers.

Holders Newcastle will begin their defence of the trophy at home to League One Bradford City.

Grimsby’s victory over United has been rewarded with a trip to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday. The Championship side produced the other shock result of the second round. A weakened Wednesday side defeated Premier League Leeds United on penalties, despite their fans boycotting the match in protest of their ownership.

The ties will take place across the weeks commencing on the 15th and 22nd September. They will be played across two weeks due to UEFA’s extended European calendar. For the same reason, teams competing in the Champions League and Europa League cannot face each other in this round of the competition.
