Calhanoglu Interview ‘Unexpected’ By Inter Milan – But Appreciated for ‘Impeccable’ Professionalism | OneFootball

A recent interview by Hakan Calhanoglu was “unexpected” but also “appreciated” by Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that the Nerazzurri appreciated the “impeccable” professionalism and message discipline in the Turk’s comments.

Midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is back at Inter Milan. The Turkish international returned to training this week, following what’s been a long, heated summer.

Transfer rumours linking Calhanoglu and Galatasaray have floated around for many weeks. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce also tried to bring the 31-year-old to Istanbul, according to some reports.

But Calhanoglu will in fact be staying at Inter this summer. The player himself confirmed as much.

There are still some things to smooth over between Inter and Calhanoglu after how the summer has gone, however.

Inter captain Lautaro Martinez had all but called out the Turkish international a few weeks ago.

Speaking frankly after Inter’s Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored “whoever wants to leave, leave.”

Calhanoglu went some way towards addressing these underlying tensions yesterday.

The former AC Milan midfielder gave a brief interview outside of Inter’s training ground as he arrived for preseason.

Calhanoglu brushed off the idea that he had ever pushed to leave. He also confidently predicted that he’ll easily reconcile with Martinez and the rest of his teammates.

According to Tuttosport, Inter did not expect Calhanoglu to give any interview.

After all, it is rare that players will make comments to reporters outside of the club’s training ground like that. At least outside of a couple words.

Therefore, there would have been a risk of Inter feeling that Calhanoglu’s comments were out of line in the circumstances.

But on the contrary, Tuttosport report, the Nerazzurri were happy with what they heard.

The club feel that, irrespective of the circumstances of the interview, it was a positive step to reassuring the fans after all the drama of the last few weeks.
