Brentford have reportedly rejected the latest bid for Bryan Mbeumo from Manchester United, while Spurs have dipped out of the transfer race.
The Red Devils are eager to improve their pool of attacking talent after scoring just 1.11 goals per 90 in the Premier League last season, which played no small part in them finishing the year in 15th place.
Matheus Cunha has already been purchased from Wolves after they triggered his £62.5 million release clause, and now they are fully set on signing Mbeumo.
After seeing their initial bid for the Cameroon international, worth up to £55m, United put in an improved offer that matched the figure they paid for Cunha.
Brentford have rejected the second bid, but talks between the two clubs are “continuing”, according to Sky Sports News. The Athletic report that the offer included an initial transfer fee of £55m plus £7.5m in bonuses.
Additionally, it is claimed that Mbeumo has “informed” Tottenham Hotspur that he wishes to join United this summer after the Lilywhites engaged in “initial talks” with Brentford.
Spurs are “no longer pursuing” the 26-year-old forward and deny having made a bid to their London rival, but their stance “might change” if United cannot close out a deal.
Mbeumo is contracted until next summer, but Brentford have the option extend his deal for an additional 12 months.
The attacker, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United, enjoyed his best campaign in the Premier League to date in 2024/25, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists.
