Bryan Mbeumo is poised to become Manchester United’s second signing of the summer after the sides’ five-week-long negotiations reached a successful end on Friday.

Indeed, the Red Devils finally made a proposal Brentford deemed acceptable in the form of £65 million plus £7m in add-ons, with David Ornstein subsequently confirming the player would travel to Manchester this weekend to undergo his medical.

United’s third offer came after their opening two bids, worth £55m and then £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons, were swiftly rebuffed by the Bees, who were adamant about making their money’s worth from their talisman’s exit.

You can’t really blame them for standing firm in their demands, either.

Mbeumo is on the back of an emphatic, career-best goalscoring campaign, in which he notched 20 Premier League goals and contributed a further eight assists. He, and partner Yoane Wissa, were so prolific in attack that ex-striker Ivan Toney’s absence had relatively no impact on the team’s performances.

What’s also certain to have appealed to Ruben Amorim when he green-lit the Cameroonian’s arrival is that Mbeumo was available to start every single league fixture across 2024/2025, while he also played the full 90 minutes in all but one match. That kind of availability could prove pivotal for the boss throughout the lengthy term.

Amidst the euphoria from the Old Trafford faithful when the 25-year-old’s transfer was finally announced yesterday, he was also seemingly keeping a close eye on social media.

When Fabrizio Romano shared an edited snap of Mbeumo in a United kit to Instagram, eagle-eyed Reds were quick to spot that the forward had liked the picture himself.

Assuming all the finer details are hashed out and he passes his medical with flying colours, supporters can expect to see their new man feature for the first time during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
