Bruno Fernandes reveals how previous FA Cup heartbreak powered win over Man City | OneFootball

Bruno Fernandes revealed Manchester United had to 'suffer' and 'sacrifice' to emerge victorious in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Fernandes and his teammates proudly had their hands on the trophy at Wembley Stadium following a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City after goals from youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.

United featured in the FA Cup final last season but were pipped by City, the side winning 2-1 thanks to a brace from Ilkay Gundogan.

After the final whistle, skipper Fernandes said: "It's [been] a long season, it was difficult. It was our last chance to get something positive from the season.

"We've been here last year and we were not good enough to go up the stairs and lift the trophy - we had to see them [City] doing that. This season, it's the other way around.

"We played a great team. They have great qualities, great players, a great manager. We had to suffer, we had to sacrifice, and we also had to put some quality into the game."

Speaking about 19-year-old Mainoo's performance, Fernandes added: "He's really good. He's such a such a quality player. You see the composure that he had in the finishing.

"But part of the DNA of this club is the young players who come through the academy onto the biggest stage in the world. They showed it again."

Speculation continues to swirl around the future of manager Erik ten Hag, who was reportedly set for the sack before the weekend but came out in fighting form after guiding United to their 13th FA Cup triumph.

In his post-match press conference, the Dutchman said: "If they don't want me anymore, I'll go somewhere else and win trophies, that's what I've done my whole career."
