Bristol City's decision to listen to offers for striker Tommy Conway shows that they have learned from previous mistakes in the transfer window.

The Robins are open to offers for star striker Tommy Conway this summer, according to Bristol Live.

The Scottish international is attracting interest from Celtic, Rangers, and Wolverhampton Wanderers after he scored 10 goals in the Championship for the Robins this season.

Conway is yet to sign a new contract at Ashton Gate, and with just 12 months remaining on his current deal, the South West club have decided to listen to offers.

Bristol City will be entitled to compensation if the forward leaves the club on a free transfer in 2025, but it will be nowhere near the amount that they could command during the upcoming transfer window – particularly if he goes north of the border as they'll only get around £300k.

The 21-year-old could raise his stock even higher during the next few weeks after being selected for Scotland's Euro 2024 squad. He was called up after Scotland suffered injuries to QPR striker Lyndon Dykes and Liverpool youngster Ben Doak, and almost scored the winning goal on his debut in the latter stages of a 2-2 draw against Finland.

Bristol City open to offers for Conway

Conway has played 82 times in the Championship for Bristol City, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists. He signed a new three-year contract with the club in July 2022.

He starred during the Robins' FA Cup third-round triumph over Premier League side West Ham United this season. The forward scored the equalising goal at the London Stadium to force a replay at Ashton Gate, where he scored in a 1-0 victory to send his side through to the next round.

Conway has been at Bristol City since the age of seven, but boss Liam Manning admitted that the striker would have a decision to make this summer if he didn't accept the "terrific offer" made to him by the club.

Manning explained that wanted Conway to stay but it now appears as though the Robins are preparing for life without the Scottish striker.

City listening to offers for Conway suggests that they have learnt their lesson from seasons gone by when several players have run down their contracts and left the club.

It appears as though Bristol City have learnt from their mistakes during previous transfer windows when they turned down offers for players only to see them end up leaving the club at the end of their contracts.

Han-Noah Massengo joined Burnley from Bristol City in September last year, with the Robins only receiving a compensation package for the midfielder. Bristol City could have sold Massengo on a couple of occasions before he ultimately left on his own terms.

Bristol City signed Tomas Kalas from Chelsea for a club-record fee of £8m in the summer of 2019. The defender eventually left Ashton Gate to join Schalke on a free transfer in 2023, meaning that the Robins received no financial return on their investment.

The Robins brought Famara Diedhiou to the club from Angers for a then club-record fee of £5.3m in 2017. Bristol City put a £2m price tag on the striker with just six months remaining on his contract amid interest from Middlesbrough in 2021 before he was eventually released by the club at the end of that season.
