Brighton and Hove Albion host Liverpool at the Amex Stadium on Monday 19th May at 8pm in what could be a big game for Seagulls in their race to finish eighth and potentially secure Conference League football next season. Liverpool have already secured the Premier League title, with this end of the season period now allowing Arne Slot to assess his squad depth ahead of the new campaign a few weeks early, making changes to his starting XI. This game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Premier League.

Both teams have scored in each of their last five fixtures between these two sides. Liverpool are likely to continue making slight adjustments to their lineups for the final games, perhaps leaving them slightly more defensively fragile.

Mo Salah Over 0.5 assists (16/5 with Betway)

With Mo Salah still two assists away from equalling the Premier League assist record (20) and becoming only the second player to both score and assist 20 or more goals in a Premier League season, you can expect the Egyptian to be up for it.

How both teams go into Brighton vs Liverpool

Brighton have been in a fairly poor run of form lately, winning only twice in their last eight games. However, heading into the final weeks of the season, Fabian Hurzeler’s side could still finish eighth. This could be enough to qualify for the Conference League should Manchester City win the FA Cup and Newcastle United finish in the top six. With both Manchester City and Newcastle qualifying for a higher form of European football in this instance, Conference League qualification would drop to the eighth-placed Premier League side.

Liverpool, on the other hand, are just slowly beginning to take their foot off the gas, losing two of their last six Premier League games, and are currently on a two-game winless streak since being declared champions. Slot’s side wrapped up the league after their 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield at the end of April, which now gives the Liverpool manager some freedom to experiment with his selections. He can give certain individuals more of a chance at the end of this campaign ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Brighton team news

Joao Pedro is available again after serving his three-match ban. Lewis Dunk and Joel Veltman return to the squad after missing the last match due to minor injuries. Hurzeler is also optimistic about the availability of Kaoru Mitoma, who has been dealing with some “minor issues” this week.

However, Solly March (knee), Georginio Rutter (ankle), James Milner (hamstring), and Ferdi Kadioglu (toe) remain sidelined, although Rutter has the best chance of recovering in time for the final match day. Mats Wieffer has been impressive at right-back and may continue in that position, possibly keeping Veltman out of the starting lineup. Dunk’s return to the lineup is not guaranteed, especially since Adam Webster performed well in defence during last weekend’s win at Molineux.

In midfield, there is still competition between Jack Hinshelwood and Yasin Ayari, with Ayari having started in Gameweek 36. Brajan Gruda may be rewarded for his goal last Saturday by replacing Matt O’Riley in the attacking midfield role. Due to ongoing fitness concerns, Mitoma hasn’t started a match since Gameweek 31 and may not make it back into the starting lineup. Hurzeler has options available, including the possibility of using Pedro (if fit), Gruda, and Simon Adingra as alternatives to Tariq Lamptey, who played out of position on the right wing against Wolves.

Liverpool team news

Arne Slot was asked on Friday whether Trent Alexander-Arnold would play against Brighton and Hove Albion on Monday, especially after being jeered by a section of Liverpool’s supporters in gameweek 36. With the Reds’ squad, and Slot himself, just returning from some time off, the Liverpool manager could not provide an answer, stating, “It’s quite early for me now to say what the team will look like on Monday.” There was no update on Joe Gomez’s hamstring injury.

It’s uncertain how Slot will line up his team at the Amex Stadium, particularly since he gave fringe players an opportunity in gameweek 35 before reverting to a nearly full-strength XI in the following week. One would expect that the Reds’ head coach will field a strong team for the final match of the 2024/25 season, especially since it will be the last home game when the Premier League trophy will be presented. Therefore, the trip to Brighton may be his last chance to give players like Wataru Endo, Harvey Elliott, Caoimhín Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Darwin Nunez, and even Federico Chiesa some valuable playing time. Additionally, Alexis Mac Allister has been benched for the last two league games and may return to the lineup.

Brighton vs Liverpool head-to-head

Having lost four of their first five Premier League home games against Liverpool (one draw), Brighton are now unbeaten in their last two against the Reds at the Amex Stadium. Liverpool have won their last two Premier League games against Brighton, having won just one of their previous seven against the Seagulls (four draws and two losses).
