Brighton women have confirmed the departure of club captain Vicky Losada, who leaves after two seasons on the South coast with her contract expiring.

Vicky Losada joined Brighton at the beginning of the 2023/24 season from Roma and the Spaniard established herself as a key member of the team’s setup in no time at all.

Despite only spending two years at the club, Losada was named captain after her first season as the midfielder became irreplaceable in the starting XI almost immediately.

Losada played 47 games for Brighton across all competitions and the 34-year-old started 35 of the 36 games that she was available in the WSL.

The Seagulls enjoyed two positive campaigns during Losada’s time in the team, with a 9th place finish upgraded to 5th in her second year in the top flight.

Losada leaves the club this summer as her contract expires and while it is unknown where she will be playing her football next year, the Spanish veteran is likely to move overseas before the 2025/26 season begins.

Brighton manager thanks Losada

Speaking after the confirmation of Losada’s departure, Brighton manager Dario Vidosic said: “Although we only shared one season here, she played a huge role in helping me settle into the job and was a constant source of support and guidance.

“As a player, her accolades speak for themselves. She’s a commanding presence on the pitch, and her wealth of experience is clear for all to see.

“As a person, she truly embodies what it means to be a captain and a leader – respected and admired by both players and staff, on and off the pitch.”

Away from the field, Losada was an ambassador for the Brighton and Hove Albion Foundation.

The experienced player was recognised as Brighton’s PFA Community Champion in her final season at the club after her hard work within the community surrounding the club.

“We wish her nothing but success in the next steps of her journey and will always be thankful for everything she gave to the club,” Vidosic concluded.
