The Carnlough native watched on from the sidelines at Tannadice last Saturday afternoon, as his rapacious Celtic side swept aside fellow countryman, Jim Goodwin’s team in a title day procession at the home of the Tangerines.

Brendan’s fourth 5-0 title winning match – Hearts, theRangers, Kilmarnock  and now Dundee United

It had been coming though for some time, as Rodgers and his men have been unstoppable this season in domestic football, with another double-digit Scottish Premiership win on the history books. Celtic were really on it after an early flurry from Dundee United, who just couldn’t keep the pace and ended up losing 5-0, with an own goal the starter for the Hoops.

From there on in, it went from bad to worse for the home side, as the Bhoys battered their goal with a brace from Adam Idah and Nicloas Kühn, who clearly enjoyed responding to his critics after some below-par performances of late. It was a welcome boost for Idah too, whom Rodgers spent considerable money on to sign him permanently from Norwich City last summer, following a successful loan spell which helped us win the title last year.

Idah has scored 18 goals this season and has time to go beyond 20

Idah took his tally to 18 goals for the campaign, which is not bad going, considering he hasn’t been the main starting striker. It remains to be seen what Brendan’s plans are for recruitment his upcoming close season, but former centre-forward Sutton insists another striker will be bought. Speaking to Sky Sports during the post-match coverage, he said: “I think, without doubt, Brendan will want to sign a striker. He talked about when the club sold Kyogo, he wanted to bring someone else in.

“I think Brendan is not so sure about him (Idah) being the all-rounder he needs to go to the next level. I think we’ve seen the evidence of that because in big games, he’s been left on the bench. I’m not so sure he’s kicked on this season as he would have liked to, and as Brendan would have liked to, hence the club will have to bring in a centre-forward over the summer.”

Idah deserves a little more respect that he’s being shown

Idah’s goal return in his season and a half as a Celtic player suggests that he perhaps deserves a little more respect that he’s hitherto been shown by many pundits. He arrived at Celtic having played very little football in the first half of last season at Norwich yet managed to be a key figure in Celtic’s double. And last summer he was effectively denied a pre-season due to the haggling over the transfer fee with the English Championship side.

The time to make your mind up about Idah is this time next year. Meanwhile don’t write the big guy off just yet.
