Tyrique George’s move to Fulham has collapsed.
This comes as something of a surprise – it was getting suspicious that it hadn’t been announced yet, but top sources like David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano were calling his £22m move with a “heavy sell on fee” a “done deal” at around 4pm, so we were all expecting it to happen.
Nizaar Kinsella’s Tweet explaining why Tyrique George’s move collapsed.
In the end it was all on Fulham’s end that the problems began. Nizaar Kinsella has just reported that the move to the Whites collapsed because the Whites signed wingers Kevin and Samu Chukwueze, but weren’t able to find a move for Harry Wilson, whose move to Leeds fell apart late on too.
That left Fulham with one too many attackers, and as the only deal that hadn’t yet been rubber stamped, George’s was the one that ended up being cancelled. We’re not sure how he will feel about this all. Other teams, including RB Leipzig were interested, and perhaps a move there could have been salvaged had this all come to pass a little earlier.
For a player who only had one year in the first team, George made a big impact last season. He played a lot of minutes in the Conference League team which lifted the trophy, scored a vital goal (against Fulham, ironically) in the league run-in which helped Chelsea make it into the Champions League this year, and played his part in the Club World Cup win too.
Who knows – perhaps he can make a similar impact this year too? With Cole Palmer and Liam Delap currently out, there are certainly opportunities to be had while new signings Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte get up to speed.
