Brazilian police have cleared Manchester United winger Antony of domestic violence towards his former partner.

Last year, Antony was granted a leave of absence by United after he was publicly accused by ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin of assaulting and threatening her.

Two other women came forward and accused Antony of assault but one dropped her allegations. The United star denied any wrongdoing as he vowed to fight the charges against him.

Cavallin claimed that Antony first attacked her in June last year while she was pregnant and enjoying her holiday in Brazil.

She alleged that the United forward headbutted and punched her and in the process, damaged a breast implant. She said that this happened at a hotel in Manchester on January 15. She also alleged that Antony threw a glass at her in May and injured her finger.

Cavallin further stated that the former Ajax star held her a prisoner in their home and did not allow her to leave.

Over a year after the complaint was lodged, Globo.com now report that Brazilian police have dropped their probe into Antony.

Sao Paulo cops noted that Antony was under investigation for insults, threats, assault and domestic psychological violence but they did not find evidence of any wrongdoing on the player’s part.

When contacted by Globo.com over the matter, the Public Security Secretariat confirmed as much and said, “The case was processed under confidentiality.”

“More information should be requested from the courts.”

Antony remains under investigation in England but he has yet to be charged with anything.

Manchester World explain that Greater Manchester Police told them that their inquiry into the 24-year-old is “ongoing.”

The £85million winger did not get a taste of the action last Friday when United kicked off their Premier League campaign in a 1-0 victory against Fulham. He was on the bench on that occasion.
