As Borussia Mönchengladbach prepare for the departure of Jonas Omlin, the Bundesliga club have shown an interest in Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega as a replacement, according to Bild. After three years in the Premier League, the 32-year-old is free to leave with James Trafford now Pep Guardiola’s No. 1, although Ortega’s salary proves to be a sticking point.

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus discussed the type of profile they want to bring in: “It definitely shouldn’t be a very young goalkeeper, but someone with experience who could step in at any time.”

After losing his No. 1 spot to Mortiz Nicolas and his captaincy to Tim Kleindienst, Omlin wants to leave Borussia Mönchengladbach before Monday’s deadline. Championship side Leicester City have shown an interest in signing the Swiss goalkeeper, as has his former club Montpellier. In Tiago Pereira Cardoso, die Fohlen also have a young option to compete with Nicolas while Tobias Sippel earns his coaching badges, and Olmin’s departure would open the door for an experienced goalkeeper – such as Ortega – to come in.
