Borussia Dortmund’s TST Group Revealed!

Borussia Dortmund will be returning to The Soccer Tournament this June in Cary, North Carolina, to compete for the lucrative 1-million-dollar winner-take-all prize. I know what you’re thinking: how can Dortmund compete in this tournament when they’ll be preparing for the Club World Cup?

This won’t be the first team squad we see on television every week, but rather a squad of BVB legends who are an equally exciting spectacle, especially in a 7-v-7 tournament. Dortmund has not yet announced its roster, but I can speculate that it will resemble their previous two years at TST, featuring Dortmund legends such as Roman Weidenfeller, Kevin Großkreutz, Felipe Santana, Tinga, Evanilson, and Marcio Amoroso. This is the squad I hope to see Marco Reus travel with in the future.

Borussia Dortmund, Drunken Monkeys, Freedom United SC, Plymouth Argyle FC

Freedom United SC is a team formed from former United States Air Force Academy players between 2017 and 2023. During that time, many of these players were part of the 2017 and 2018 teams that won the WAC league, while others played together as part of the squad that won the 2021 WAC season and the 2021 WAC tournament. Notable players include Tomas Hilliard-Arce (former LA Galaxy 2018-19), Thomas Williamson (Loudoun United FC 2023-present), and Tucker Bone (2019 MLS SuperDraft 20th pick- Seattle Sounders)

Plymouth Argyle FC is an English club based in Devon, England. The team currently competes in the EFL Championship, which is the second tier of English football. The team is looking to build their fanbase and make an impression at TST. Their kits are traditionally green and feature a depiction of the Mayflower, the famous ship that carried pilgrims to Massachusetts. The TST squad will be coached by David Norris, who has been with Whaplode Drove Rovers since 2025. The 44-year-old has had a career of experience playing for clubs like Leeds United, Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Bolton Wanderers, Hull City, and about a dozen more. He’s made over 520 competitive appearances across England’s top five football divisions.

Little is known about Drunken Monkeys FC, but the team was established just this year, 2025. Part of the Drunken Monkeys’ intrigue comes from the mystery as to what, exactly, the Drunken Monkeys are. There seems to be an apparent USA-Brazilian connection reflected by the Drunken Monkeys’ social media. The team will be represented in both the Women’s and Men’s tournaments. The men’s squad has not been announced, but it might be worth waiting for, since the Women’s squad will have American and TST veteran Jordan O’Brien alongside fellow TST veteran Formiga. The Brazilian played in seven World Cups and 7 Olympic Games. Who else from these two countries might join the Drunken Monkeys?
