Borussia Dortmund see off Heidenheim in six-goal thriller to go top | OneFootball

Borussia Dortmund went top of the Bundesliga, at least until Saturday evening, with a 4-2 win over Heidenheim at the Signal Iduna Park.

Heindenheim came into the game top of the table, having convincingly won both of their opening two games, but found themselves two goals down within 17 minutes against a vibrant Dortmund side.

The star of the night, Karim Adeyemi, was the provider of the first and the scorer of the second. In the 10th minute, he cut inside from the right before slipping the ball into the path of Donyell Malen, who finished brilliantly from the edge of the box.

Seven minutes later, the young German forward got his first of the night, coolly finishing off a rapid counter-attack with a smart finish inside the box.

Heindenheim gradually grew into the game and halved the deficit in the 39th minute, Marvin Pieringer finding himself unmarked in the box to head home Omar Haktab Traoré’s corner.

Their efforts to get back into the game lasted just two minutes, though, as Adeyemi, again, made no mistake from inside the box. Serhou Guirassy, who was making his debut for the black and yellow, played a role in it, dummying Julian Ryerson’s cross, allowing the ball into the path of the winger.

After the break, Guirassy almost had the dream start to his Dortmund career, but Adeyemi’s ball had just too much on it.

Marcel Sabitzer came off the bench, and had an immediate impact at both ends, denying Heidenheim a second before having a goal ruled out at the other end for handball.

The visitors did get that goal shortly after, Maximilian Breunig slotting home from the spot after Niklas Süle fouled Mikkel Kaufman in the 75th minute.

Dortmund sealed the win deep, deep into stoppage time when captain Emre Can, who had come off the bench, calmly scored a penalty of his own.

The win means Nuri Şahin is now three games unbeaten, and two for two at home, as his positive start to life in management continues.
