Borussia Dortmund make contact with Manchester City regarding right-back Yan Couto | OneFootball

Fabrizio Romano reports that Borussia Dortmund have made contact with Manchester City regarding their right-back Yan Couto.

The Brazilian is open to a move to a move to the Westfahlenstadion and it has previously been reported that Couto and Dortmund have already reached an agreement in principle regarding a move to the club.

However, the issue with the move will be the cost. Couto has a release clause that is said to be worth around €40m but Dortmund are uninterested in paying such a fee for the Brazilian. Instead, Dortmund would be open to paying around €20-25m for Couto. The fee was one of the reasons why Dortmund did not complete the signing of now Aston Villa left-back Ian Maatsen, despite the 22-year-old spending the second half of last season on loan at the club.

The 22-year-old has never played a game for City but spent the past two seasons on loan at LaLiga side Girona, whom he helped qualify for the Champions League as they finished third in LaLiga.

It is clear that Dortmund have finally identified the full-back positions as a problem area for them as they looked to not only improve the right-back position with the potential signing of Couto but also have shown interest in his teammate last season Miguel Gutiérrez.
