Middlesbrough are 'in advanced talks' to bring in Rob Edwards as the replacement for Michael Carrick.
The former Manchester United and England midfielder was dismissed at the end of the season with Boro finishing 10th in the Championship, four points off a play-off place.
According to Dominic Shaw of The Northern Echo, former Luton Town manager Edwards has impressed during the interview process and the club is now close to hiring the 42-year-old.
Edwards initially took over the Hatters early into the 2022/23 season and led the team into the Premier League through the play-offs. Luton were always out-classed in the top flight and the club kept Edwards in his role to try and earn promotion again.
However, the former Welsh international was dismissed early in 2025 with the club hovering above the drop zone. Without Edwards, the Hatters eventually suffered a second successive relegation.
