Newcastle United now looking forward to the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
A superb 2-0 victory over Arsenal at St James’ Park finishing off the job just over five weeks ago.
United actually had the chances to have won by even more.
Still, I think fair to say, all Newcastle United fans would have settled for a 4-0 aggregate thrashing of Arsenal…
The Carabao Cup Final though is almost here, only two days to go before Wembley.
So from a neutral perspective, what are Newcastle United’s chances of lifting the trophy?
The one place you can be guaranteed there is no bias, is with the bookies, their only interest is making money.
So how do they rate United’s chances?
Odds on who will eventually lift the trophy (whether decided in 90 minutes, after extra time, or penalties…)
1/3 Liverpool
5/2 Newcastle United
So the bookies rating Newcastle having a two in seven chance of winning the trophy.
Looking beyond this Carabao Cup Final, what are the chances of Newcastle United finishing Premier League top four?
With bookies taking stock after Eddie Howe and his team won at West Ham.
The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.
This is how the Premier League table looks today (Friday 14 March 2025):
Listed below are the general Premier League odds now (morning of 14 March 2025) available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the very opening round of PL games):
Finish Premier League top four:
1/1,000 (1/2) Liverpool
1/25 (1/9) Arsenal
4/7 (1/7) Man City
10/11 (9/4) Chelsea
5/4 (100/1) Forest
5/2 (9/4) Newcastle United
9/1 (11/1) Brighton
18/1 (66/1) Bournemouth
25/1 (7/2) Villa
150/1 (66/1) Fulham
Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?
Well, the bookies now have NUFC sixth most likely.
Exactly the same odds available on Newcastle United finishing in the top four, as they are on taking the Carabao Cup back to Tyneside.
Newcastle now up to sixth in the table, level on points with Man City, two points off Chelsea.
With it all but guaranteed that fifth place will get a Champions League spot, the race is very much on. So in reality, the bookies odds on Newcastle playing Champions League football next season, are actually far shorter than the 5/2 to finish top four.
