Mauricio Pochettino is fighting to save his job at Chelsea following another dismal season for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

The Blues sunk to new lows on Tuesday night losing 5-0 to rivals Arsenal at the Emirates to really ramp up the pressure on the Argentine.

Chelsea sit ninth in the Premier League, three points behind Newcastle in seventh and six behind Manchester United in sixth in the race for Europe, but do have a game in hand on their rivals.

While a sacking is reportedly not imminent the 52-year-old’s position in the Stamford Bridge dug out isn’t entirely safe.

The former Tottenham manager  is approaching the half way point of the two year contract he signed last summer, and he will sit down with the club at the end of the season to discuss his future, as has always been the plan.

Pochettino’s men face a tough last six games of the season starting with Saturday’s trip to high flying Aston Villa before hosting Spurs at Stamford Bridge.

Qualifying for Europe is very much still seen as important for the club and journalist Ben Jacobs believes these two games will be season defining.

He shared on X: “Understand Chelsea’s leadership are yet to make any final decision and want to do so ‘dispassionately’.

“Games against Aston Villa and Spurs are going to be season defining as far as qualifying for Europe are concerned, and doing so is still seen as important.”

Whilst it may seem unlikely given Chelsea’s current form it’s not impossible for the Blue’s to pick up some positive results in those games.

Pochettino’s men turned in one of their best performances of the season at Villa Park in the FA Cup winning 3-1, and have also beaten Spurs 4-1 earlier in the season.

A repeat of those results would be a huge boost to everyone associated with the club as they endure another difficult campaign.
