Newcastle United have hit another dead end in their quest to sign a new striker this summer.

According to The Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers chairman Jeff Shi has shut down an exit for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has become a priority target for the Magpies.

The towering Norwegian striker has established himself as a prolific marksman since joining Wolves from Celta Vigo last summer.

Newcastle’s search for a new striker led them to his doorstep, and that interest appears to have turned his head.

The 25-year-old has told Wolves that he wants to leave, but they are adamant that they will not sanction any late moves for him.

Wolves have already rejected two offers from Newcastle worth £50 million and £55m. Shi has made the club’s position clear, telling Strand Larsen that a late move is off the table for now.

The Midlands club are looking to sign another striker this summer, but only to bolster their options rather than replace the Norwegian.

Letting him go would leave manager Vítor Pereira short of options and force Wolves to scramble for two new strikers with hardly any time left in the transfer window.

Newcastle view Strand Larsen as a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left St James’ Park after his contract expired to join West Ham United.

If they somehow complete a deal for the former Celta striker, he’d come in to provide cover for Isak rather than replace him.

Newcastle are still reluctant to lose Isak even after he told the club that he’s ready to sit out the rest of the season if he doesn’t get his dream move to Liverpool.

They have also explored deals for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, but they’re no closer to ending their striker saga.
