Valerien Ismael picked up his first win as the head coach of Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, as they defeated Luton Town 1-0 at Kenilworth Road.

Yuki Ohashi's 52nd-minute goal handed the Lancashire outfit a vital three points as they looked to find a way out of the rut that they were in since the Frenchman took over at Ewood Park, although they did have to play the majority of the second half with just ten players on the pitch.

Kristi Montgomery's red card not long after Rovers took the lead saw the hosts mount a huge amount of pressure on the away side, and despite Thelo Aasgaard firing the ball off the underside of the crossbar, Ismael's team held strong.

The victory sent Blackburn up to 10th in the table, and they will be hoping for a positive end to the season to help them in their quest to bring in new faces in the summer, with Ismael looking to bring in a young Everton midfielder currently on loan at Derby County.

Verdict issued on Blackburn's Harrison Armstrong interest

According to Alan Nixon via Patreon, Harrison Armstrong is a target of Rovers ahead of the summer transfer window, after they shortlisted him back in January while John Eustace was the head coach.

Ironically, the 45-year-old wanted to bring in a player with more experience, before ultimately linking up with the teenager after taking over the Rams, where he has excelled, as Derby push for survival in the Championship.

Football League World has asked their Blackburn Fan Pundit, Simon Middlehurst, if he would like to see Armstrong move to Ewood Park for the 2025/26 campaign to help add more depth to the midfield, which is proving to be a bit of an issue right now under Valerien Ismael.

Simon told FLW: "I think it would be a really good signing and addition. If you look at what we've got available, we don't have much depth in that area.

"But also, if you look at the performances last season, we didn't have Lewis Travis for half a season. It was the same with John Buckley, as they were both out on loan and obviously, when Buckley returned, he was injured.

"Sondre Tronstad was probably the outstanding player last season for us, however, this season, all three have been very inconsistent, Buckley more so than the other two.

"So, it would be nice to have a bit more depth and again it’s also another exciting young player to come in and gain some valuable first some experience, add some depth and hopefully performances as well to follow suit."

Harrison Armstrong could well be part of David Moyes' plans next season if he continues to impress at Derby County

While there is sure to be plenty of interest from the Championship this summer directed at Armstrong, after such a strong spell with Derby, it would not be a surprise to see David Moyes keep hold of his young midfielder until the final days of the transfer window to evaluate if he should be involved in the first team at Everton.

The move to the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium means that the Toffees are moving into an exciting new era, and the 18-year-old could be the face of that if he continues on his current trajectory, meaning that Blackburn may find it tough to secure a deal.

Moreover, the Rams will also be interested in bringing Armstrong back for another year, with his ability to take control of games at such a young age a key asset to Eustace's team.

Blackburn are not in a strong position at the moment, with the relationship between supporters and those at the top of the club becoming more distant day-by-day, and, with such uncertainty, Everton may be reluctant to send one of their future stars to Ewood Park.
