FLW's Blackburn Rovers fan pundit has identified what signings would make a dream end to the January window
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
John Eustace will be hoping that Blackburn Rovers can add players to his squad before the January market closes next week.
The Lancashire outfit have earned themselves a shot at a play-off place this season with their impressive form.
However, it has been a relatively quiet winter market so far with just Adam Forshaw and Dion Sanderson arriving.
But Blackburn have until 3 February to complete any other deals that could potentially improve their hopes of a top six finish.
When asked what a dream end to the window would look like, FLW’s Blackburn fan pundit Simon Middlehurst identified Patrick Bamford as an option he'd like to see pursued.
It was reported earlier this month by Alan Nixon that Rovers are interested, but his fitness issues have been raised as a concern.
"Heading into the last week of the transfer window, a dream would be a striker," Middlehurst told Football League World.
"I’d like to think that would be realistic.
"Obviously probably it would depend, waiting on the end of the week to see, more than likely, the loan market, seeing what players are available that we could get at Blackburn.
"That would be great.
"[In terms of a] particular player, if he kept himself fit, would be Patrick Bamford.
"I think he’s got a great record in the Championship, he knows where the goal is, experienced player.
"His fitness would be a massive, massive issue."
Newcombe also identified two other players that could come in if Bamford can't be signed.
"Richard Kone from Wycombe, he’s had a really good season, he would be number one," he added.
"Quite an exciting player to watch in League One, I think he would be a great addition to the Championship.
"Jayden Danns at Liverpool I think getting him on loan would be good, another exciting young player, we’ve already got Owen Beck on loan at the minute.
"Previously we’ve had Harvey Elliott as well, we’ve also had a couple other loans from Liverpool as well so we do have a good relationship with Liverpool with getting players in.
"So they would be great players I think to get in.
"I’d like to think we’re being realistic.
"The dream would be another two or three players, possibly maybe a winger, another centre-midfielder, we do have a few injuries in midfield at the minute, hopefully not long-term.
"But a striker would be great."
Blackburn are currently seventh in the Championship table, two points behind sixth place Middlesbrough after 29 games played each.
Eustace made it clear over the weekend that he would like to see two or three new players brought in, via the BBC.
Someone like Danns could be a smart option given the history between Blackburn and Liverpool in the last few years.
Rovers haven’t made the best use of the January market in the last couple of seasons, but this is a great opportunity to bring players in and push for a play-off place.
Eustace has certainly earned the right to be backed in the market with how well he’s done over the last 12 months, but it remains to be seen whether anyone will come through the door before next Monday.
