It’s already been a busy summer for Blues, as they prepare for life back in League One after a disappointing previous season saw them relegated on the final day.

Despite that, there is optimism around the club under the owners, whilst the appointment of ex-Celtic assistant Davies is seen as a shrewd one.

Birmingham City target Dan Scarr

Now, attention is turning to building a squad that is capable of winning promotion, and Football Insider has revealed that Scarr is a target.

The 29-year-old is currently with Plymouth, and he made 28 appearances for Argyle as they managed to secure their safety at the expense of Blues in that tight relegation battle.

Prior to that, the big defender featured regularly as Steven Schumacher’s side won the League One title, so he is someone who knows what it takes to be successful in the third tier.

However, with his deal at Home Park expiring in 12 months time, the update states that they could consider cashing in on Scarr, as his value is only going to drop unless fresh terms are agreed.

Birmingham City return may appeal to Dan Scarr

Dropping a division would not normally appeal to players, but that may not be the case for Scarr, as he was born in Bromsgrove and was brought up as a Blues fan.

After impressing in non-league for Redditch United and Stourbridge, Scarr actually secured a dream move to St. Andrew’s in 2017, but he didn’t make a league appearance over the next two years before he joined Walsall.

So, Scarr may feel he has unfinished business with Blues, and the chance to play a key role for the club that is close to his heart may mean he pushes for this move to happen.

Birmingham City’s summer plans

Things are starting to move for Blues this summer now, with Ryan Allsop, another boyhood fan, announced as a new recruit on Tuesday.

He is another experienced figure, and it makes sense that Davies is targeting players who have plenty of Football League games under their belt, and know about the demands of League One.

They may not be the most exciting additions on paper, but it shows that the new boss values players who have been there and done it.

Blues are going to be a big fish in the division next season, and they will be expected to win games week in, week out. But, we know that it won’t be easy, so you need a squad that is ready to battle and grind out results, something which Scarr has been a part of in the past.

Fans will feel there’s still more work to be done, but the owners are ambitious, and they will no doubt do all they can to ensure the group is ready to go when the new season starts in August, as they try to bounce back straight away.
