Japhet Tanganga is said to have a £1.2m release clause at Millwall - one that Premier League sides can activate.
A release clause has reportedly been set for Millwall defender, Japhet Tanganga, with attention on Premier League clubs to activate it.
Tanganga is the subject of reports that a release clause is in place for top-flight clubs to activate this summer after an impressive campaign in the Sky Bet Championship.
Respected South London journalist Richard Cawley has reported that Tanganga has a release clause of just £1.2million in his current Millwall contract, posted the news on his X account.
It is believed that only Premier League sides could trigger the clause for one of Alex Neil's key men.
The 26-year-old defender made 40 Championship appearances for Millwall in the most recent campaign, as the Lions finished in eighth place and only two points below the play-off spots.
For his efforts, Tanganga won the Supporter’s Club player of the season gong, and could now be at the centre of attention from some in the top flight during the summer months.
The centre-back signed for the Lions permanently before the start of the 2024 season, leaving Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent.
Before his switch to The Den, Tanganga had played 18 times on loan at Millwall in the prior season. He netted twice over the course of his initial spell with the club.
In his debut season as a permanent Millwall fixture, the Spurs academy graduate impressed as one of the shining lights of a side with a strong defensive record.
It now appears that Tanganga could be in line for a move back to the Premier League, with it understood only teams in the division above Millwall can activate the reported release clause.
The Englishman does have experience in the top flight, and featured 27 times with Spurs. That included games against the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City, while he also played in the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
A smattering of appearances in European competitions followed for Tanganga, as he managed gametime in all three of the continental cups: the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.
He has put his name back in the hat after a successful second tier season. The London-born defender ranked highly in both tackling and dual statistics. He won 37 tackles, at a rate of 66.1% success, while he won a massive 233 duels at 62.1%, according to Fotmob.
