If Manchester United still had a remaining shred of hope to sign Joshua Kimmich, it will go in tatters on Thursday.

The 30-year-old has been a stalwart for Bayern Munich since making the move from Stuttgart in 2025. Since then, the German rapidly established himself as a key figure for both club and country, becoming an instant fan favourite at the Allianz Arena.

Nevertheless, the versatile star is currently running on an expiring deal, leaving his future up in the air. This situation alarmed a host of top clubs all around Europe, and chief among them Man Utd who were dreaming of signing the Germany international on a free transfer in the summer.

The experienced star is originally a midfielder who combines impressive technique with a battling attitude, but can seamlessly fill in at right-back whenever required. All of these attributes rendered him one of the most desired players on the free agents market.

However, growing reports in recent weeks claimed that the midfielder has finally managed to find an accord with the Bavarian giants following some exhausting back-and-forth negotiations between the two parties.

So according to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, the white smoke has now emerged, as Bayern are planning to announce Kimmich’s contract extension on Thursday.

“As reported earlier this week, Joshua Kimmich will sign his new contract until 2029 today,” posted the German football insider on his official X account. “Bayern have also scheduled a big announcement for later today (Thursday).”

Therefore, this will serve as the final nail in the coffin of Man United’s hopes of luring Kimmich to Old Trafford next season.

Hence, INEOS must now turn their attention towards alternative profiles in their quest to reinforce their midfield department. They will certainly need at least one or two new recruitments, as Christian Eriksen will be heading towards the exit door with an expiring contract, while many are hoping that fellow high-earner Casemiro would follow suit.
