Bayern Munich sensation Jamal Musiala has revealed that Barcelona were the team he supported during his childhood.
In fact, growing up, he admired several players, but Lionel Messi stood out as his biggest inspiration.
“F.C. Barcelona was my favourite team and because of that they were always my reference.”
Musiala idolised the Argentine legend and often had Messi’s name printed on the back of his football shirts as a child, reflecting his admiration for the Barcelona icon.
“On the back of my shirts as a kid, the name was almost always Messi. I also had one with Neymar, but Messi was my hero, my favourite player,” he admitted as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
This revelation has gained attention amidst uncertainty surrounding Musiala’s future at Bayern Munich. Barcelona’s interest in the German international adds another layer of intrigue to the situation.
Musiala’s contract with Bayern runs until 2026, leaving plenty of time before its expiration. However, Bayern are keen to avoid any potential complications next season.

The German club reportedly wants to initiate renewal talks as soon as possible to secure the player’s future. So far, though, no significant progress has been made in these negotiations.
Barcelona, known for keeping tabs on emerging talents, continue to monitor Musiala’s situation closely.
While the Catalan giants are unlikely to meet Bayern Munich’s financial demands, especially if an opportunity arises for the midfielder to leave, their long-standing admiration for Musiala cannot be ignored.
Despite their financial constraints, Barcelona has consistently shown interest in players who fit their philosophy, and Musiala’s creativity and vision on the pitch certainly align with their playing style.
For now, Musiala remains a key player for Bayern Munich, and the Bundesliga side will do everything in their power to retain their prized asset.
However, as long as his future remains unresolved, speculation linking him to clubs like Barcelona will persist.
