Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed Manuel Neuer is not expected to miss a significant period of time ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League showdown with Arsenal.

The vastly experienced goalkeeper pulled out of the German squad for this month’s friendlies against France and the Netherlands.

Barcelona stopper Marc Andre ter-Stegen duly started in goal as the Euro 2024 hosts beat the French, one of the favourites for this summer’s tournament, after goals from Florian Wirtz and Gunners star Kai Havertz and Toni Kroos made his return to the international stage after coming out of retirement.

Bayern head into their quarter-final beset by issues. Thomas Tuchel is set to leave the club this summer after agreeing to end his contract a year early, while star striker Harry Kane was forced to pull out of the England squad with an ankle injury.

January signing Sacha Boey is expected to miss the trip to north London with a hamstring injury and the German giants will be without their supporters for the game at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday April 9.

UEFA issued Bayern fans with a ban from attending the away leg after fans threw fireworks onto the pitch during their 3-1 win at Lazio in the last-16.

Nagelsmann, however, has suggested Neuer could be in contention for the game at Arsenal.

“It’s just a muscle fibre tear,” he said.

“He won’t be out for 8 months. So, I don’t change my opinion. I told Marc that I’m thankful to have him.

“Now, he has the chance to be there. But that doesn’t change my decision. Manuel will be out for ten days.”
