Despite the recent form of Eric Dier, Bayern Munich refuse to suggest that the English defender will stay in Munich beyond this season. It looks certain that Dier will leave Bavaria in the summer on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Bayern are looking at several young center-backs to strengthen the squad in the summer.
The Bavarian club will likely sign one young center-back to replace Dier. It looks like one defender from the Premier League is on Bayern’s list of defensive targets for the summer transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have enquired about Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. Chelsea and other big clubs in Europe are also keeping a close eye on the situation of Huijsen.
Huijsen has been one of the impressive young defenders in the Premier League this season. Since arriving from Juventus in the summer, the 19-year-old center-back has hit the ground running for Bournemouth.
In 17 appearances for Bournemouth in the Premier League, Huijsen has also scored two goals. He is very good at playing out from the back and equally competent off the ball. The teenager has shown incredible maturity to seamlessly adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League.
Romano has revealed that Huijsen has a fixed release clause in his contract which will be active from the summer. If the release clause is below €50 million, then it would be a no-brainer for top European clubs to compete for his signature sooner rather than later.
While Bayern monitor the situation of several young defenders across Europe, it does look like their interest in Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is over. The Uruguayan defender was heavily linked with a move to Bavaria at this time last year. He ended up staying in Barcelona, and Bayern didn’t make a bid for him in the summer.
Araujo has further squashed reports about his future by signing a new deal at FC Barcelona. The Uruguayan’s new deal doesn’t expire until 2031. Bayern are unlikely to reignite their interest in signing Araujo at the end of the season.
Bayern are actively looking at Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande. They have also scouted Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera. Depending on the financial package involved in all three deals, Bayern will do a great job of getting one of Diomande, Mosquera, and Huijsen in the summer.
The Bavarian club is also looking to extend Dayot Upamecano's contract. The French defender has excelled under Vincent Kompany. He is ready to sign a new deal as his current contract comes to an end in 2026. With Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, Hiroki Ito, and one young center-back signing, Bayern will have a strong group of center-backs.
