Bayern Munich actively tried to add more quality in the attacking area of the squad during the last summer transfer window. They quickly completed a deal to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace at the start of the summer. Bayern also wanted to sign Xavi Simons and Désiré Doué, but both players ended up at other clubs.
Die Roten also tried to sign one of the best young players from Brazil during the last summer transfer window.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich tried to sign Willian Estêvão from Palmeiras before making a move for Michael Olise. The Bavarian club made a crucial move 24 hours before Estêvão agreed a move to Chelsea. The Brazilian forward was in advanced negotiations with Chelsea by the time Bayern made the move.
Estêvão will join Chelsea next summer as he spends one final season at Palmeiras. The 17-year-old has been in sensational form, contributing 12 goals and eight assists in 27 appearances for the Brazilian club across all competitions. Estêvão is considered one of the best players in his age group and is tipped to become a top player in the near future. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)
Bayern missed out on top talent in Estêvão, but the Bavarian club’s investment in Olise will pay dividends. The French winger has hit the ground running in Munich. He has been Vincent Kompany’s first-choice option on the right flank due to his explosive start to the campaign.
The record Bundesliga champions are expected to add more attacking talent to the squad in the summer. They have made Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz as their top target. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is expected to leave Leverkusen in the summer.
Bayern also retain an interest in Xavi Simons. The Dutch attacking midfielder will be available on a permanent transfer next summer after spending the ongoing campaign on loan at RB Leipzig. PSG will likely sanction a permanent transfer for Simons at the end of the season.
Moreover, Bayern have an exciting talent in Paul Wanner, who will return to the club next summer. Wanner is enjoying a productive loan spell at FC Heidenheim. Bayern consider him to be part of their long-term plans.
While missing out on Estêvão is a bitter pill to swallow, Bayern can still assemble an exciting attacking unit with young players by the end of the summer.
