BILD reports that Bayer Leverkusen are in talks with Florian Wirtz’ entourage to extend the player’s contract beyond 2027 following interest from European giants Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Arsenal.
Hans Wirtz, Florian’s father, has been at the forefront of negotiations but, per the report, discussions are also taking place with Karin Groß, the star’s mother, who has a ‘very close and trusting relationship’ with Florian Wirtz.
It’s known that Wirtz will leave Bayer Leverkusen at some point. But with a Bundesliga title and competing in this season’s Champions League, the player’s immediate future is at the BayArena.
BILD further report that Bayer 04 CEO Fernando Carro and sporting director Simon Rolfes wish to extend Wirtz’ contract by at least one year, which has been communicated with the player’s family.
Should Wirtz be sold after the 2026 World Cup, Carro has already stated that Wirtz could bring in a transfer fee of at least €150m. But if the 21-year-old doesn’t agree to a one-year extension, it’s possible that Wirtz could be sold in 2025 to avoid the risk of the player’s price tag falling.
But with a salary increase, Bayer Leverkusen bosses are confident that Wirtz will sign a new deal.
