Barnsley should consider a move to sign Millwall striker Macaulay Langstaff, as his link-up with Davis Keillor-Dunn could be devastating.
Barnsley could be interested in landing a new partner for Davis Keillor-Dunn this summer, and someone they could consider is Millwall striker Macaulay Langstaff.
The Tykes have already added forward options to their ranks this summer in Reyes Cleary and David McGoldrick, but could be interested in adding another proven EFL goalscorer to their ranks, amid concerns about the latter's age.
One man linked with a move to League One or League Two is Langstaff, who enjoyed an exceptional few years with Notts County, before making the switch to Championship outfit Millwall last summer.
However, his big move to the second tier hasn't yielded the results that either party would've hoped for when he signed, as the 28-year-old scored just a single goal and chipped in with two assists in 34 Championship outings in his first season.
With the permanent addition of Josh Coburn, Langstaff could find himself surplus to requirements at The Den, and could be keen on a fresh start elsewhere. With that in mind, Barnsley should certainly be alert to this unfolding situation.
When Langstaff was smashing in goals left, right, and center for Notts County, it seemed just a matter of time until a club higher up the EFL took a punt on him, which could've reaped huge rewards.
Millwall were the club that took the chance on the prolific Magpies striker, bringing him to the capital in a deal reportedly worth around £700k plus add-ons in the summer of 2024, penning a long-term deal with the club.
Sadly, the move didn't have the results that either the player or club wanted, as Langstaff scored just one goal and chipped in with a further two assists in 34 Championship outings, which was a far cry from the form he showed in Nottinghamshire.
With Millwall splashing the cash to bring Coburn to the club permanently and the emergence of Mihailo Ivanovic, game time for the 28-year-old next season will be difficult to come by, which will likely see him on his way out of The Den after just 12 months at the club.
One club that will be looking to add some firepower to their ranks is Barnsley, even though they've already brought in two forwards, as they look to find star man Keillor-Dunn a new strike partner, following Stephen Humphrys' departure to Bradford City.
The Tykes have seen plenty of interest in some of their players, with the likes of Jon Russell and Luca Connell linked with moves away, which could see the Yorkshire club have cash to splash if these deals go through and the owners decide to spend it.
With that in mind, Barnsley should pounce before any of their League One rivals to bring Langstaff to Oakwell as a new striker partner for Kellior-Dunn, who would bring experience and a good eye for goal alongside an already lethal striker.
If the 28-year-old was able to rediscover the goalscoring form he displayed at Notts County, the link-up between the two forwards could be devastating, and help fire the Tykes towards a potential promotion push.
Obviously it would be a big gamble for Conor Hourihane, as Langstaff is unproven at League One level, and his Championship record is less than impressive, but a new environment could help him regain that confidence he displayed for the Magpies.
Working alongside a prolific forward in Keillor-Dunn in a strong League One outfit could be perfect for the Millwall striker, and the experience he gained in the Championship last season could help him adapt quickly to life in the division below, and find his goalscoring mojo again.
