An update on the ongoing battle for the signature of Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has on Friday been forthcoming online.

The info comes courtesy of German outlet BILD, as cited by Diario Sport, and points towards Real Madrid as having taken a clear lead over Barcelona in the race for the defender.

Left-back Davies has of course long seen his name take its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain.

This comes amid the widespread understanding that, ahead of the expiration of his contract with Bayern Munich next summer, the Canadian international has been earmarked as a chief transfer target on the part of both of La Liga’s top clubs.

Though both already boast clear first-choice left-backs, Barcelona and Real Madrid have identified Davies as a market opportunity too good to turn down.

If the latest word stemming from the media is anything to go by, though, then the latter have over recent weeks emerged as the frontrunners to strike a deal.

As per Sport:

‘Madrid have strengthened contacts with an economic proposal and ‘Bild’ believes that they would be very close to signing Davies.’
