Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski is on the brink of securing a contract renewal with the club, needing to play just 55% of the matches this season to trigger the extension.

Having already participated in 32 out of the 34 games, Lewandowski is only two matches away from reaching the required threshold.

With Barcelona potentially playing a maximum of 59 games throughout the season, it is clear that the target is well within his reach.

Even so, the club’s management already considers his renewal a formality, given his exceptional performances.

A key player for Barcelona

This is hardly a surprise, especially considering Lewandowski’s impressive stats. His performances have far exceeded initial expectations, silencing those who questioned the club’s decision to bring him in.

Lewandowski is just three goals away from surpassing his highest tally for Barcelona, which stands at 33 goals during the 2022-2023 season and four goals ahead of his 26 goals from the 2023-2024 season.

Age is not a limiting factor for the 36-year-old striker. Despite being in the later years of his career, Lewandowski is enjoying one of the most prolific periods in his career.

With 30 goals in 32 games so far, he has already netted five more than the 25 goals he scored in 49 matches back in 2014-2015, his debut season with Bayern Munich.

A consistent presence

Lewandowski’s achievements extend beyond his goal tally. He boasts two prestigious Pichichi awards and was the top scorer in the Champions League’s opening phase, despite not scoring against Atalanta.

He shared the position with Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund. His recent goal against Alaves keeps him on top of the La Liga scorers’ chart, with 18 goals, three more than Kylian Mbappe, who failed to score against Espanyol.

With the season still in its middle phase, and 19 more matches to go, including two in the Champions League and at least one in the Copa del Rey, Lewandowski is poised for even greater feats, potentially playing in all 59 matches this season.
