Ronald Araujo faces an uncertain summer at FC Barcelona despite being one of the captains of the team and an integral part of the club’s project.

The Uruguayan international has a contract with the club until 2026 with a €1 billion release clause, but the club have tried to offer him a new deal.

However, the centre-half is yet to respond to the proposal while the list of his suitors continues to grow, leading to uncertainty over his future.

Barcelona not very optimistic about Araujo’s continuity

As such, SPORT reports that Barcelona are not entirely optimistic about Ronald Araujo continuing at the club beyond this season.

The defender is one of those players that Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, would like to continue at the club. But the sports management sees the Uruguayan, at the moment, more outside than inside.

Bayern Munich and Manchester United have been long-term admirers of the 25-year-old and have been insisting on his signing for a while now.

Earlier today, reports emerged claiming that even Chelsea had shown an interest in signing the Barcelona captain.

All the clubs would be willing to shell out a significant fee for Araujo while also offering him a much higher salary than Barça.

According to some sources, when Araujo renewed his contract in 2022, he made an economic effort that had to be compensated in the next contract, but the amount that Barça can offer him currently is much lower than what other clubs can offer him, especially Chelsea.

That is why there is not a lot of optimism about his continuity at the club even though Araujo has always been very grateful to Barcelona.
