Despite the club’s financial limitations, Barcelona had a rather productive transfer window. Bringing in several important players, the Catalan giants did well to reinforce the squad. Unfortunately, registration issues continue to linger.
Still, despite these obvious problems, Barça continues to be linked to various players from time to time even now. The latest report that has emerged now even suggests that the club is eyeing a certain South American prospect.

According to TNT Sports (via Diario AS), Barcelona are closely following the progress of River Plate starlet Ian Subiabre. The 18-year-old winger is considered one of River’s brightest prospects and has already caught the attention of several European clubs.
Subiabre is currently under contract with River until December 2026 and has a release clause of around €30 million.
The player himself has already confirmed his intention to renew his deal with Los Millonarios, but that has not cooled Barça’s interest.
In fact, his representatives, led by the legendary Claudio Caniggia, have travelled to Barcelona on multiple occasions this year to discuss the youngster’s potential future.
For now, there is no formal offer on the table. Barça’s precarious financial position and their inability to comply with La Liga’s 1:1 rule make it unrealistic to expect a transfer in the immediate future.
Instead, the club is expected to adopt a patient approach, waiting until the final stretch of Subiabre’s contract when they could have stronger negotiating leverage.
Interest in the Argentine is not limited to Barcelona. Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea have also sent scouts to Buenos Aires to monitor his performances.
Subiabre impressed in the South American U-20 Championship, scoring three goals in six games, and is expected to play a starring role for Argentina at the upcoming U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Subiabre is a left-footed winger capable of playing on both flanks. His blend of versatility, pace, and technical quality makes him one of the standout talents to emerge from River’s academy in recent years.
While a move to Barcelona in the near future looks highly unlikely, there is little doubt that Subiabre will not remain at River Plate forever. For the Blaugrana, it could become a long-term operation as they continue to rebuild for the future.
