FC Barcelona suffered a rather frustrating defeat against Real Sociedad in their latest La Liga outing. Unfortunately for the Catalan giants, this defeat now sees them waste an opportunity to win some points that could be crucial in the long run. However, many things went wrong for Barcelona during the game beyond just the scoreline itself.

One of those things was Frenkie de Jong’s involvement, as the Dutch midfielder consistently struggled throughout the first half due to Real Sociedad’s intense pressure and his inability to escape it. Moreover, on a few different occasions, the player ended on the floor in need of medical attention or a breather.

Ultimately, he was the first player to be substituted by Hansi Flick as he never re-emerged from the tunnel once the second half kicked off. In his place, Dani Olmo ended up coming on and played the entirety of the second half.

Now, however, SPORT has revealed the reality behind what De Jong was feeling at the half time break. Reportedly, the Barcelona captain broke down in tears at the Reale Arena in the locker room due to the pain he was feeling in his leg and because he initially feared that he had suffered another long-term injury.

Fortunately for the player, that did not end up being the case and he is now set to feature for the Dutch National team in the upcoming games in the UEFA Nations League. Under Ronald Koeman’s guidance now, the midfielder is expected to test out his feelings on the international stage.

Previously, he has already missed a lot of action for the Netherlands due to the variety of injuries he has suffered over the course of the last year or so. Luck definitely has not been on his side recently, but the player’s performances for Barcelona have been rather inconsistent as well.
