Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has now secured full control over his future.

As the referee blew the whistle for half-time against Las Palmas, the Polish striker officially surpassed the 55% threshold set in his contract, ensuring that the decision regarding his fourth season at the club rests entirely in his hands.

It must be noted that when he signed for Barcelona, Lewandowski penned a four-year contract.

However, one key clause allowed Barça to terminate the final year of his deal if, by the third season, he had not played at least 55% of matches, featuring for a minimum of 45 minutes in each.

With his start against Las Palmas, that condition has now been met, confirming that his contract will run until 30 June 2026, reports SPORT.

Lewandowski has fulfilled the needed criteria

For Barcelona, the maximum number of games they could play this season across all competitions is 61.

This includes 38 La Liga matches, up to 15 in the Champions League, six in the Copa del Rey, and two in the Spanish Super Cup. Based on this, Lewandowski needed to reach at least 34 appearances with a minimum of 45 minutes played in each.

By being included in the starting lineup against Las Palmas, the striker has now fulfilled this requirement. Out of the 37 matches Barcelona have played so far this season, Lewandowski has featured in the vast majority.

He has only played fewer than 45 minutes in four games—two Copa del Rey fixtures against Real Betis and Valencia, as well as league matches against Mallorca and Valencia at home.

Regardless of contract terms, Barcelona had already made it clear that they were counting on Lewandowski even for the next season. The club values his contribution and sees him as an important part of the squad under Hansi Flick.
