Barcelona have signed a new long-term goalkeeper in Joan Garcia, and the Spaniard is set to be the team’s starting goalkeeper from the coming season.

Wojciech Szczesny is expected to stay and serve as his backup option while Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future is undecided, with the player looking to stay and prove a point, but the manager is unwilling to place him ahead of the aforementioned duo.

Another player who now finds all doors closed is Inaki Pena, for the academy product who dreamt of succeeding at the club finds himself too far behind in the manager’s pecking order.

Mundo Deportivo provides an update on his future and the two options on his table.

All doors open

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, Pena wishes to sort out his future this week and is already assessing all the options on his table. After all, he has a couple of offers awaiting his response, and he is not opposed to leaving the club.

The player is evaluating all his options but has yet to make a decision on his destination. Celta Vigo and Valencia were rumoured to be interested, but there was no progress on that front, and it now appears that he could well end up abroad if he opts to leave.

What is clear, however, is that he will not leave for a project that does not convince him, as he prioritises a sporting project that has him as a starter and an important player.

If his future is undecided beyond July 13th, Pena will return to Barcelona and train under Hansi Flick for next season, and he thus keeps the option of staying alive as well.

His contract ends in a year, and his staying will leave Barcelona in a tight spot, for he could leave on a free transfer next season, but his intention is not to force that situation and leave this summer, should everything work out.

With Pena hungry for minutes and prioritising a move abroad, a departure could well pan out in the next week.

The coming days will be crucial, and he could even leave with a letter of freedom with a contract termination should that be required.
