Barcelona defender set to join Atlético as Mario Hermoso replacement | OneFootball

A somewhat-forgotten member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona is all set to link up with La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Marcos Alonso as the player in question.

Stopper Alonso, for his part, has long been set to see his stint in Barcelona’s colours come to a close this summer.

As much comes after the Blaugrana brass made clear that they had no intention of renewing his contract, due to expire at the end of next month.

The former Chelsea man, in turn, has been forced to seek out alternative arrangements for next season.

And one such option to have come to the fore, as alluded to above, comes in the form of linking up with Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid.

A spot is set to open up in the defensive setup at the Wanda Metropolitano over the coming weeks, upon Mario Hermoso moving on as a free agent.

And, as per the aforementioned Sport, Alonso has been earmarked as the ideal cut-price replacement.

In fact, an agreement is considered to be all but in place between the parties, amid confirmation that ‘if nothing goes wrong, he will join Atlético’ in the summer.
